Arts Law Centre for New Zealand
McLaughlin Law is proud to announce that in partnership with the Depot Artspace it has established a national Arts Law Centre for New Zealand in form of the Creative People's Centre.
The Creative People's Centre is a real world and online initiative which is unique in New Zealand and provides on a national basis through a number of approaches, free and subsidised legal, funding, structuring and organisational advice to groups and individuals practising in the creative industries.
McLaughlin Law principal David McLaughlin describes the CPC as “unique in New Zealand due to both the extensive online legal resources the CPC makes available through its soon to be launched revamped website, as well as the physical presence that the CPC has in its premises in Devonport, Auckland and through the legal services and assistance that McLaughlin Law provides nationwide under the banner of the CPC”. David also sees the CPC as filling a vital gap in the creative industries infrastructure in New Zealand in that the CPC’s focus includes not for profit organisations and emerging groups and individuals who practice in the creative industries and does not just provide assistance to those already established and successful practitioners.
A series of nationwide Arts Law seminars are planned for early 2009 to celebrate the official launch of the CPC’s new website which includes 19 detailed legal Fact Sheets covering almost every practice area within the creative industries in New Zealand.
McLaughlin Law would also like to acknowledge the generous financial support of the ASB Trust and the New Zealand Law Foundation in helping to make the Creative People’s Centre a reality.
